Jenssen
With the latest generation of harvesting machines, we are able to bring in our entire crop at the optimum point of ripeness.
The Jenssen estate has existed since the 18th century, and has now been fully restored in grand style and divided into spacious and comfortable apartments meeting modern comfort requirements.
Le Maine Pertubaud, where the estate is located, is set in Grand Champagne, a picturesque corner of France which is considered to be the best in the Cognac region, where the world-famous, incomparable Cognac is born, due to its particularly attractive conditions. Bordeaux airport is only an hour away by car, while Paris is a two-hour train ride away. This luxurious estate gives 20 guests the opportunity to relax in comfort, and is ideal for seminars, business talks or private parties. The villa has a pool, a tennis court, a golf course, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside ideal for cycle rides and walking. Here guests can immerse themselves in the world of traditional cognac-making, and familiarise themselves with the estate's unique collection of century-aged drinks. We also organise courses allowing our guests to lose themselves in the world of wine and cuisine.
Coquand recognised a striking correlation between tasting notes and the geology of 6 districts in the Cognac production area; the chalkier the soil, the finer the cognac. Since 1938 they have been known as Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bons Bois and Bois Ordinaires.
Our district – Grande Champagne – has the chalkiest soils, and is ranked as the Cognac region’s “Premier Cru”, meaning the vineyard located here consistently produces crops of exceptional quality and particular character. Grande Champagne’s situation between the Atlantic Ocean and the high ground of the Upper Charente Valley produces a sunny, temperate microclimate which is ideal for a vineyard.
Connoisseurs are able to identify specific terroirs within a district, and can recognise the difference between a cognac produced on the hills and plateaux of Bonneuil and one from the adjacent plains. Particularly delicate, elegant and floral, cognac from Le Maine Pertubaud is a marriage of inherited skills and exceptional natural conditions.
Le Maine Pertubaud originally consisted of separate farms that we have combined into one. The disposition of the buildings has remained unchanged, and one can visit them as one would a small village. There are four family mansions and countless outbuildings, such as distilleries, wine and spirit storehouses, stables etc., all of which have a purpose and are in use.
Vine and forest, meadows and gardens create a luxuriant atmosphere, enhanced by damp scents of honeysuckle, rosemary, lavender, rose and jasmine, and, beneath a starlit sky, invite contemplation.
