Kornet
Kornet Moscow Sparkling Wines Plant was founded in 1942. It is one of Russia's oldest sparkling wine producers, having been founded on the base of a vodka and wine/brandy house of the famous industrialist P.A. Smirnov that had been in existence since the mid-19th century. Resolving plant-scale objectives from its initiation, Kornet Sparkling Wines Plant became the pioneer for a new phase in production of sparkling wines, with its products receiving wide acclaim both within the USSR and abroad. It was here that the fundamentally new technology of continuous-flow CO2 infusion, which has subsequently been patented in France, Greece, Italy, the USA, Switzerland, Chile and other countries, was first introduced. The techniques and technologies used by Kornet allow production of the whole range of wine grades: brut, dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet and sweet. After gas infusion, wine may also be sent for 1-3 months' further ripening at room temperature in a vat system. This additional ripening improves end product quality, and it is this wine that is used to produce the plant's famous 'Silver' and 'Gold' variations.
Raw materials are traditionally supplied by initial wine-production facilities located in Krasnodar Territory. The raw materials required for sparkling wine production are unprocessed wine materials produced from the best European grape varieties: Pinot, Riesling, Chardonnay and more.
The sparkling wines sold under the Kornet trademark are refined in taste, and constitute some of Russia's most prestigious sparkling wine varieties.
The high quality of the plant's products is confirmed by the number of prizes it has been awarded in respected international contests – over 100. The plant was the first in the USSR to be awarded the Grand Prix, the highest title for sparkling wines. The prizes won by the plant's products in international wine contests include 62 gold and 39 silver medals.
In 2005 the Kornet plant produced around 15 million bottles of sparkling wine, with turnover amounting to around 25 million dollars. The plant employs over 270 persons. Kornet's product range includes such famous sparkling wine brands as the following:
